Reliable wireless connectivity for MATIX in remote industrial environments
AzzurroDigitale is an Italian digital transformation company based in Padova. The company supports manufacturing and industrial organisations throughout their digitalisation journey by combining consulting, custom software development and system integration. Its mission is to improve the way manufacturing companies work by applying scalable technologies, powered by AI, in service of people.
One of AzzurroDigitale’s key products is MATIX EAM, a cloud platform for managing machinery, moulds and industrial equipment. MATIX digitises maintenance processes, automates efficiency analysis and gives industrial teams a centralised, transparent view of their assets. The platform can be paired with MATIX Box, an IoT sensor that collects data on asset usage and production efficiency, then visualises it through intuitive dashboards.
MATIX is used across a wide range of manufacturing sectors, including household appliances, automotive, home and building automation, electrical equipment, consumer goods, plastics and packaging, and machinery manufacturing. A particular strength of the platform is the management of industrial moulds, including injection moulds, die-casting moulds and metal stamping tools, both in in-house production environments and outsourced supply chains.
The challenge: industrial telemetry without cellular coverage
For MATIX Box, reliable connectivity is essential. The system depends on telemetry data from industrial assets to support production efficiency monitoring, predictive maintenance planning, failure prediction, downtime tracking, geolocation and remote asset management.
In some remote industrial environments, however, cellular coverage was not available.

The technical requirements were clear. The solution had to cover an entire industrial floor with very few gateways, ideally just one. It also had to avoid major changes to the existing product hardware and telemetry protocols, while maintaining low and predictable power consumption.
The solution: STRATUM 9 DECT NR+ integrated into the existing MATIX platform
AzzurroDigitale used STRATUM 9’s DECT NR+ Software Stack to extend MATIX with a robust, private industrial wireless communication layer.
A key advantage of the solution was the integration model. The DECT NR+ Software Stack was used as a Zephyr module on AzzurroDigitale’s existing Nordic SDK, which was already integrated into the MATIX product environment. This allowed AzzurroDigitale to introduce DECT NR+ connectivity without redesigning the product architecture or making extensive changes to existing firmware and hardware.
The DECT NR+ Gateway provides the connection between the DECT NR+ wireless network and the customer’s existing infrastructure. For MATIX, this created a practical path to reliable industrial telemetry in environments where cellular connectivity was either unavailable or unsuitable.
The result: faster, more reliable and more predictable telemetry
By implementing STRATUM 9’s DECT NR+ technology, AzzurroDigitale gained a wireless connectivity option specifically suited to industrial deployment conditions.
The solution enabled telemetry that is much closer to real time, an important capability for industrial applications where asset status, utilisation and efficiency data need to be available quickly and consistently. Predictable power consumption is another important factor for connected industrial devices that must operate reliably in demanding production environments.
The solution also improved deployment flexibility. Instead of depending on public cellular network availability, MATIX can now be deployed in environments where AzzurroDigitale controls the wireless infrastructure. The ability to cover large industrial areas with very few gateways helps reduce installation complexity and supports efficient rollouts on manufacturing floors.
